Jacopo BELLINI ist der Vater und erster Lehrer seiner Söhne Gentile (benannt in Verehrung seines Lehrers GENTILE DA FABRIANO) und Giovanni BELLINI. MANTEGNA wurde sein Schwiegersohn. – Auf seinen häufigen Reisen durch Oberitalien griff Jacopo BELLINI Anregungen von PISANELLO, GENTILE DA FABRIANO und UCCELLO auf. Nach 1457 arbeitete er in Padua, wo er Arbeiten von SQUARZIONE registrierte. Er ist einer der ersten Künstler von dem zwei umfangreiche Skizzenbücher (in Paris und London) überliefert sind. ■
